Somali Cabinet Approves Military and Security Agreement with Saudi Arabia

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia held its weekly meeting today, chaired by Prime Minister H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre. During the session, the Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on military and security cooperation between Somalia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, submitted by the Ministry of Defense.

The agreement is seen as a significant step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of security and military development, particularly enhancing the capabilities of the Somali National Army. This development comes as Somalia continues its intensive campaign against terrorist groups, with international support playing a crucial role in its success.

In addition to the agreement, the Cabinet heard and discussed several key reports, including:

• A general overview of the current security situation and recent achievements in the fight against the Al-Shabaab insurgency.

• Preparations for the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage.

• A briefing from the committee responsible for supporting the ongoing military operations, highlighting their efforts and progress on the frontlines.

The Federal Government of Somalia remains committed to improving national security, fostering international partnerships, and supporting its armed forces to ensure lasting peace and stable governance across the country.
