A helicopter contracted by the United Nations crashed today in the Xiindheere area of Galgaduud region, Somalia a territory controlled by Al-Shabaab militants.
The aircraft had departed from Beledweyne, the capital of Hiran region, and was en route to Wisil district when it experienced technical problems and was forced to make an emergency landing.
Reports say the crew survived the crash, but Al-Shabaab fighters seized both the crew and the wreckage. Some sources suggest one person may have been killed, several were captured, and possibly two escaped.
Somalia government or the United Nations has not yet spoke about the plane and its crew that surrendered to Al-Shabaab.
