The government of Somalia has hired a company based in Washington DC that has ties to US President Donald Trump to prevent Trump from withdrawing US troops from Somalia again.
At the end of November last year, Somalia’s Ambassador to Washington, Dahir Hassan Arab, signed a one-year contract worth $600,000 with BGR Group, a company founded by Republican officials and lawyers.
At the end of his first term in the White House, President Trump withdrew US troops from Somalia, but the troops were returned to Somalia by the next president, Joe Biden.
The government of Somalia is now looking for the US to continue its military support to Somalia through the use of BGR, believing that this support is the backbone of the war against the terrorist groups operating in Somalia.
BGR Group is co-founded by former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, a Republican. Its members also include Tom Locke, former deputy assistant director of the FBI.
