Dadaab, Kenya – A powerful explosion occurred this morning between the Xagardheer refugee camp and the town of Dadaab, targeting a vehicle belonging to the Kenyan police stationed in the Dadaab district.
Eyewitnesses from the refugee camps reported that the blast was loud enough to be heard across multiple sections of the camps and surrounding areas. The explosion took place in the middle of the road connecting Xagardheer camp to Dadaab, striking the police vehicle as it was passing through.
Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported, but the police vehicle sustained significant damage as a result of the blast.
Security agencies have since launched a large-scale investigation into the incident, although no official details have yet been released regarding the exact cause or those responsible.
A senior police officer confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that security will be heightened in the Dadaab area in the coming days to prevent further incidents.
No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion so far. Dadaab and its surrounding camps have occasionally witnessed security threats due to the region’s proximity to Somalia and the presence of extremist groups operating in the area.
