Mogadishu – More than 100 members of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, from both the Upper and Lower Houses, have jointly issued a strong statement expressing deep concern over the current political trajectory of the country, particularly the recent decisions made by the National Consultative Council (NCC) and the role of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The lawmakers declared that all recent political decisions made by the NCC were, in fact, the outcome of a single political faction, and do not represent a broad-based consensus or the collective interests of the Somali people.
In a bold call, the MPs urged President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud that if he does not reverse course from his one-sided political approach, they recommend he resign from his position to prevent the country from descending into deeper national division and instability.
This statement comes amid growing political uncertainty in Somalia, with ongoing disputes over the constitutional review process, electoral reforms, and the distribution of power between the federal government and federal member states.
