Nairobi, June 8, 2025 – A group of opposition members from the Federal Parliament of Somalia held a private meeting in Nairobi with the President of Jubbaland State, Ahmed Mohamed Islam (commonly known as Ahmed Madobe).

The meeting took place amid ongoing political consultations concerning the country’s future, the role of the opposition in federal governance, and oversight over central government operations.

President Ahmed Madobe warmly welcomed the lawmakers and expressed his appreciation for their firm stance as opposition leaders. He commended their commitment to democratic principles, transparency, and defending the constitutional order. He acknowledged their efforts as being in the interest of the Somali people and encouraged them to continue fulfilling their legislative and oversight responsibilities.

The President also advised the lawmakers to maintain their critical role in safeguarding the checks and balances within government, and to avoid actions that could lead to division or public disillusionment.

Notably, several MPs who are well-known supporters of Ahmed Madobe were present at the meeting. These lawmakers have long stood with the opposition bloc in the Federal Parliament and have advocated for inclusive governance, political accountability, and national dialogue.

The meeting was seen as a sign of close cooperation between federal opposition figures and regional state leadership, particularly Jubbaland, and highlights the growing importance of dialogue between political actors at all levels of government.
