Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama, welcomed a delegation led by the Chairperson of the African Union, Mr. Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, at Aden Adde Airport.
The Chairperson of the African Union, Mr. Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, who was elected in early February 2025, arrived in Mogadishu on his first visit.
He is expected to hold important meetings with the President of the Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, who will discuss important issues for Somalia and the African Union.
The federal government of Somalia has previously strongly supported Mahmoud Ali Yusuf to become the new Chairperson of the African Union, defeating Kenyan candidate Raila Odinga.
The Somali government will also ask the African Union for development projects provided by the African Development Bank and the African Union’s role in Somalia’s security.
