Hamas has transferred three coffins, which it claims contain the bodies of hostages who died in Gaza, according to the Israeli military.

The coffins were received by Israel through the Red Cross at the Gaza border, and the remains will undergo examination.

If confirmed to be those of the deceased hostages, this would bring the total number of Israelis killed and still held in Gaza to eight, along with one foreign national.

As part of the first phase of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement that began last month, Hamas had agreed to return 20 living hostages and 28 bodies.

Israel has accused Hamas of delaying the return of the bodies, while Hamas maintains it is working to recover remains buried beneath the rubble in Gaza.
