Exclusive information obtained by RNN Somali TV reveals that the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is preparing to make changes in the leadership of Banadir Region, with a new governor expected to be appointed within this month.

The current Governor of Banadir and Mayor of Mogadishu, Mohamed Ahmed Amiir, who was appointed to the position on December 10, 2024, is set to be removed from office due to various underlying reasons.

Sources close to the Somali Presidency confirm to RNN that five months after Governor Amiir’s appointment, the President has come to the conclusion that a leadership change is necessary to improve the management of the region.

According to the sources, President Hassan Sheikh is currently considering two Somali ambassadors as potential candidates to succeed Amiir. The shortlisted names are:

1. Mohamed Abdullahi Ahmed (Mohamed Dheere) – Somalia’s Ambassador to Serbia.

2. Dahir Hassan Hussein (Dahir Arab) – Somalia’s Ambassador to the United States.

The President is said to be carefully evaluating both candidates based on their experience and ability to lead the capital under a renewed political and administrative vision aimed at strengthening governance and development in Banadir.

RNN Somali TV will continue to closely monitor this anticipated political shift in the coming days.
