The United States has said Sudan used chemical weapons and announced new sanctions .
The U.S. State Department has said the Sudanese government used chemical weapons last year during its civil war against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
U.S. exports to Sudan will be restricted, as will financial loans, effective June 6, according to a statement read by State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce.
The Sudanese military and its rival RSF have both been accused of war crimes during their conflict.
More than 150,000 people have been killed during the conflict, which began two years ago when Sudanese forces and the RSF began a fierce struggle for power.
“The United States calls on the government of Sudan to cease all use of chemical weapons and uphold its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention,” the statement said, referring to the Chemical Weapons Convention under which signatories agreed to destroy stockpiles of the weapons.
