Riyadh – May 2025
Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump held a high-level meeting in Riyadh with Syrian President Ahmed Sharac, in a significant diplomatic encounter hosted by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). The talks come amid renewed regional efforts to stabilize the Middle East and reshape alliances.
The meeting was attended in person by Crown Prince MBS, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan participated virtually, signaling strong regional interest and engagement.
The discussions reportedly focused on key regional issues, including security cooperation, the reconstruction of Syria, counter-terrorism strategies, and economic partnerships. According to diplomatic sources, the meeting marked a potential turning point in efforts to re-establish dialogue and normalize relations between Syria and global powers.
The direct engagement between Trump and President Sharac is particularly notable, as it marks their first face-to-face meeting since relations between the United States and Syria deteriorated over the past decade.
This diplomatic initiative is viewed as part of Saudi Arabia’s broader effort to play a central role in mediating regional conflicts and promoting long-term stability.
