Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was one of the leaders who reacted to the election, and he congratulated him in a post on his website X, the CDU and its leader, Friedrich Merz.
Zelensky said he looks forward to “continuing our joint cooperation with Germany to protect life” and “bringing real peace to Ukraine” – referring to Germany’s support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.
“Europe must be able to defend itself, develop its industries, and achieve the necessary results,” he said.
“Europe needs shared success, and that success will bring greater unity to Europe.” Zelensky continued his speech.
