At least 5 people have been confirmed dead and 1,000 homes have been destroyed by a fire that has been going on since Tuesday around the city of Los Angeles in the United States.
Homes and businesses burned, as residents, including prominent Americans, fled neighborhoods described as the most expensive in the state of California.
Most of the fires started on Tuesday, and were quickly fueled by Santa Ana winds, which were reported to have reached speeds of up to 112 km per hour.
The storm continued on Wednesday, and some firefighting planes were forced to slow down their low-altitude flights to sprinkle water for fear of the fire.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said the department is prepared to handle a maximum of two large fires, but not four.
He said the fire, which is currently burning in four places around the city, has burned more than 2,000 hectares and is still spreading.
US President Joe Biden on Wednesday approved a federal emergency in connection with the fires in California.
The emergency order allows the federal government to send money and supplies immediately to the scene of the fire. But Biden warned that the recovery of the environment will take time.
