The President of the Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated in the 26th Extraordinary Summit of the Heads of the East African Community (EAC), which discussed the renewed conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The President of the Republic shared with other leaders of the East African Community, how the government of Somalia is concerned about the situation in Congo (DRC), calling on the conflicting parties to unconditionally end the civil conflict and return to the negotiating table.
The President spoke about Somalia’s experience of civil conflict and the consequences of it, and suggested the warring parties to protect civilian areas and diplomatic centers, in accordance with international rules and human rights.
Finally, the heads of the countries of the East African Community that participated in this meeting agreed to hold an emergency meeting where the leaders of the EAC and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) discuss the civil conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo DRC.
