A statement issued by the Somali government said that the United States carried out an airstrike in areas in the Lower Juba region.
“This strike is part of a concerted effort to eliminate the ability of the Al-Shabaab militia to plan and carry out terrorist attacks that threaten the Somali people, the armed forces, and international partners,” the statement said.
The statement also added, “The Federal Government of Somalia appreciates the AFRICOM operation, and reiterates its commitment to combating Al Shabab groups, in cooperation with the Somali people and international partners, to ensure peace and stability in the country.”
