Maryan Hussein Hassan, a young woman from a low-income family, attempted suicide by jumping from a high apartment building in the Shibis district after a severe emotional breakdown related to a failed love affair.
According to her father, who spoke to RNN Somali TV, Maryan had been waiting for a man she deeply loved for five years while he was away in military training in Eritrea. Upon his return to Somalia, the man married another woman — a decision that devastated Maryan.
In an apparent act of despair, she threw herself from the upper floor of the building where she lived, sustaining multiple serious injuries, including:
• Head trauma
• Broken legs
• Fractured bones in other parts of her body
Maryan is currently unconscious and receiving treatment at a hospital in Mogadishu.
Her family, already struggling financially, is calling for urgent assistance to support her medical care. Her mother passed away some time ago, leaving Maryan without strong family support during this critical time.
