The results of the election for the speaker of the parliament of the new Northeastern Somali region have been officially announced, with Dr. Adan Abdullahi Aw Hassan winning the position of the new speaker of the House of Representatives of the region.
Dr. Adan won the MPs’ vote with 53 votes, while his rival, Abdiqafaar Dheeliye, received 29 votes while one vote being spoiled .
Abdiqafar Mahmud Mohamed, the candidate defeated by Dr Adan, said that the election was free and fair, but the results did not reflect the distribution of shares among the clans that agreed to form the administration.
