MPs of Somalia’s House of the People Conduct First Reading of IGAD Development Organization Agreement

Members of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia held the 11th session of their sixth sitting at the Parliament headquarters, chaired by the Speaker of the House, H.E. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe).

With a quorum of 146 MPs present, the session focused on the first reading of the agreement establishing the IGAD Development Organization. The agreement was presented and read to the members by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Ali Balcad.

Following the reading, MPs engaged with the Ministry’s officials, raising questions regarding the provisions of the agreement and Somalia’s membership in the organization. The State Minister responded to the inquiries, explaining the relevance and benefits of Somalia’s participation in the regional development initiative.

In closing remarks, Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur instructed the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House to prepare the agreement for its second reading and return it to Parliament for further deliberation.
