Mogadishu, May 10, 2025 – Last night’s heavy rains caused widespread destruction in Mogadishu, leading to confirmed fatalities, property damage, and major infrastructure collapse.

According to early reports, at least three people have died due to the flooding — two of them children, and the third an elderly woman. Authorities warn that the death toll may rise as rescue operations continue and damage assessments are underway.

The torrential rains destroyed several homes, submerged neighborhoods, and damaged key roads across the capital, including major streets that have become impassable due to flooding and erosion.

In addition to human casualties, significant property damage has been reported, with families displaced and many left without shelter.

Emergency services, including the Somali Police Force and Banadir Regional Administration, remain on the ground providing assistance and coordinating rescue efforts.

RNN Somali TV is closely monitoring the situation and will provide continuous updates.
