The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia has officially denied circulating reports on social media and some media outlets claiming that government officials defected during the International Labour Conference (ILO) held in Geneva, Switzerland.
In a statement released by the Ministry, the reports were described as false and misleading, aimed at tarnishing the image of government institutions and officials.
“All members of the Ministry and other delegates representing Somalia attended the ILO conference with dignity and have returned to the country while fulfilling their national duties,” the statement read.
The Ministry called on the Somali public and media outlets not to believe unverified information and to remain cautious of false narratives that seek to undermine public trust in the government.
This comes as the Somali government continues its efforts to improve employment opportunities and protect workers’ rights through cooperation with international bodies like the ILO.
