At least 5 Al Shabab were killed while others escaped with injuries, during an operation in the Boni Forest in the east of the country according to Kenyan force.
Authorities confirmed that the group were planning to attack a military base in the area, but special forces foiled the plot during a reconnaissance operation.
During the operation, the troops seized Al Shabab weaponssuch as, AK-47 rifles, RPG mortars and their warheads, ammunition, self-defense equipment, tents and materials used to make improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The military stressed that the operation, which it called (OAB), is still working to “restore lasting peace and security” in the Boni region.
The new operation comes amid continued fears about Al-Shabaab’s attempts to establish bases in the Boni forest.
