Jacob Frey has been re-elected for a third term as the mayor of Minneapolis, defeating his main challenger, Somali-American state senator Omar Fateh, in a closely contested race.
The election was decided through Minneapolis’s ranked-choice voting system. Frey led after the first round of counting, and officials declared him the winner after subsequent vote redistributions.
In the final tally, Frey secured just over 50% of the total votes, while Fateh received about 44.4%.
This victory solidifies Frey’s leadership in Minneapolis as he enters his third consecutive term.
