One of the heaviest battles in recent months is taking place this morning in the Burjeed area, located on the outskirts of Baidoa, the administrative capital of the South West State of Somalia.

According to local sources, Al-Shabaab militants launched a coordinated attack on a military outpost belonging to the Somali National Army (SNA) stationed in the area. The assault has triggered intense fighting between the two sides.

In addition, Ethiopian troops, who are part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), have reportedly joined the Somali forces in repelling the attack. Eyewitnesses report heavy gunfire and explosions, with military reinforcements being deployed to the frontlines.

The scale of the casualties remains unclear as the fighting is still ongoing, and both sides have yet to issue official statements regarding the outcome.
