The Governor of Lower Shabelle Region, Ibrahim Aden Ali (Najax), has issued a strong warning to the Governor of Mudug Region in Puntland, following reports of the arbitrary arrest of citizens from South West State (KGS) in Puntland-controlled areas.
In a firm statement, Governor Najax condemned what he described as irresponsible actions taken against Somali citizens who, according to him, committed no crimes.
“The Governor of Mudug in Puntland must understand that Somalis live together across all regions. It is deeply irresponsible to detain citizens from South West State without just cause,” Najax said.
He went on to demand the immediate release of the detainees and called on Puntland’s security forces to focus on apprehending the actual perpetrators if any criminal incident, such as a killing, has occurred.
The remarks come amid growing public outcry over alleged arbitrary detentions of South West State residents in Puntland territories, particularly in the Mudug region.
