Mogadishu, May 10, 2025 – The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Amiir, has issued an official statement addressing the emergency situation caused by last night’s heavy rains that struck the capital and surrounding areas.

Governor Amiir confirmed that the regional administration has taken all possible measures to respond to the aftermath of the torrential rains.

“The torrential rains that fell over Mogadishu and its surrounding areas have prompted us to take every possible step in response. A detailed report on the rain’s impact will be released shortly, and emergency assistance will be delivered to those affected by the flooding,” said the Governor.

He further explained that intensive efforts are underway to manage the water accumulation, including the deployment of water-pumping machines and trucks to drain flooded areas, aiming to reduce health and safety risks.

“We are continuing to work hard to manage the effects of the rainfall. We’ve prepared pumping machines and suction trucks to clear areas where floodwaters have collected,” he added.

Finally, the Governor addressed the damage to key roads in the city, promising swift reconstruction. He called on the companies that originally built those roads to now reconstruct them with higher quality standards.

“We will immediately begin rebuilding the roads damaged by floodwaters. We are instructing the companies that previously constructed these roads to rebuild them with better quality materials,” the Governor stated.

RNN Somali TV will continue monitoring the situation, and a full report from the Banadir administration is expected in the coming hours.
