At least 36 people died and several others were injured after a bus crashed in the northern state of Uttarakhand in India.
Officials said 44 people were on board when the driver lost control and the bus fell into a 50m ditch in Marchula, in Almora district of the state.The state government has ordered an investigation into the incident.
The bus was on its way to Ramnagar district when the hailstorm occurred on Monday morning.Several passengers died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals. Rescue operations are still underway.
Photos and videos taken from the scene showed the car badly damaged and rolling under a mountain. Buses are the most common means of transport in the Himalayan region, and accidents are not uncommon.
India Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent his condolences to the families of those who died in the accident.
