The militant group Al-Shabaab carried out a planned attack on a convoy belonging to the Kenyan security forces traveling through an area between Bambo Ola and Mandera town. The attack resulted in casualties, including the death of a senior commander and injuries to several soldiers.

The assault began when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the road detonated as the military convoy passed by. Following the explosion, heavily armed militants opened fire on the troops, sparking a fierce exchange that led to the death of one commanding officer and injuries to seven other soldiers.

Security sources confirmed that the incident took place earlier today, noting that the soldiers were on a routine operation and may have lacked immediate backup. The attack has heightened fears among residents in the area, as it follows a pattern of increased Al-Shabaab activities across Kenya’s northeastern border regions.

The situation in Mandera and surrounding areas has grown increasingly volatile, with Al-Shabaab ramping up its operations in an apparent effort to destabilize the region and undermine public confidence in the security apparatus. Kenyan forces have come under frequent attack in recent months, particularly in areas close to the Somalia border.

As of now, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. However, a response is expected soon. Local residents near Bambo Ola and Mandera remain on high alert and are calling for stronger security measures to prevent further attacks.
