Who is the new president of Ethiopia?

The Ethiopian government has chosen Taye Atske Selassie as the new president of Ethiopia for the next six years.

Ambassador Taye was appointed as the president at the opening of a joint session held by the two parliaments and the federation.

In the middle of last year, Ambassador Taye was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country, he will now  replace Mrs. Sahle Work Zewde, who held this position for some time.

The 487 members who attended the joint meeting of the two councils, approved the appointment of Ambassador Taye by a majority vote, five gentlemen were absent.

Ambassador Taye represented his country at the Ethiopian embassies in Washington and Los Angeles and the Ethiopian consulates at the United Nations and New York.

He also  served as the Prime Minister’s advisor on foreign policy, and was also the Minister of Foreign Affairs for eight months before being appointed as the President.
