The agreement was signed on behalf of Somalia by the Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur (Jama), who emphasized the importance of the deal for Somalia’s economic future.
Minister Jama stated:
“This agreement is a major opportunity for Somalia to benefit from Turkey’s experience and strategic ports. It will help strengthen trade, create jobs, and improve maritime infrastructure.”
The key goals of the agreement include:
• Strengthening maritime transport cooperation
• Enhancing trade connectivity between Somalia and regional partners
• Supporting local production and exports
• Promoting economic growth across the Horn of Africa
Turkey, which has maintained strong ties with Somalia since 2011, is expanding its regional influence through economic and infrastructure partnerships. This agreement marks a new phase of collaboration that is expected to bring in investment, technology transfer, and improved access to global trade routes.
The deal also paves the way for new joint ventures in port development, shipping services, and regional maritime logistics.
