The President of Jubaland, H.E. Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe), who is not officially recognized by the Federal Government of Somalia, chaired a special session of his Council of Ministers held in Kismayo. The meeting focused on the country’s current political situation, with a particular emphasis on the ongoing constitutional review and the national electoral process.

According to a press release issued by the Jubaland Presidency, the cabinet meeting included an in-depth discussion of Jubaland’s position regarding the constitutional review and the electoral framework, stating that these processes do not reflect the will of the Somali people.

“The constitutional review and electoral process do not represent the wishes of the Somali people, as they are being carried out in a one-sided manner,” the statement read.

Jubaland expressed deep concern over the Federal Government’s unilateral handling of the constitutional process, emphasizing the absence of inclusive national consultation and political consensus.

This meeting comes amid growing tensions between the Federal Government and some federal member states, particularly Jubaland and Puntland, which have previously rejected participation in political dialogues initiated by Villa Somalia.

President Ahmed Madobe underscored the importance of inclusive political dialogue, stressing the need for a democratic and participatory electoral and constitutional reform process that includes all political stakeholders and truly represents the aspirations of the Somali people.
