The Puntland administration has cast doubt on the citizenship and background of Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, sparking political controversy.

In a statement made by the Puntland Minister of Information, Mr. Ceydiid Dirir, he claimed that Hamza Abdi Barre was among the children who once fled from Mogadishu, questioning his roots and affiliation with Puntland.

This strong statement comes just a day after Prime Minister Hamza remarked during the ongoing conference in Mogadishu that the people of Puntland are being punished, referring to their exclusion or marginalization in federal matters.

The remarks from both sides signal a growing rift between Puntland and the Federal Government of Somalia, further complicating efforts to achieve political consensus amid a tense national dialogue.
