Mogadishu – The Federal Government of Somalia’s Ministry of Fisheries has officially signed a cooperation and investment agreement with OYAK, a prominent company from Turkey, aimed at advancing Somalia’s fisheries sector.

The agreement focuses on:

• Establishing modern fish processing factories

• Developing key fisheries infrastructure such as fishing ports and markets

• Creating job opportunities and increasing fish production in Somalia

The deal was signed on behalf of the Somali government by Minister of Fisheries, Ahmed Hassan Aden, and on behalf of OYAK by Mr. Sermaye Yatırımları Anonim Şirketi, the head of the company.

This partnership is part of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s broader national development plan, which prioritizes the revitalization of Somalia’s natural economic resources—especially the vital fishing industry.

The agreement is expected to strengthen economic ties between Somalia and Turkey, boost local fish production, and contribute to long-term economic growth and employment across coastal communities in the country.
