The President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, has strongly condemned the recent conflict in Raskamboni, describing it as a serious threat to Somalia’s stability and a dangerous sign of a return to civil war. He warned that such actions could derail the country’s fragile peace and federal system.
President Deni criticized the use of the national army for political purposes, specifically to undermine the regional administration of Jubbaland, calling it an unacceptable misuse of power that could deepen divisions among Somalis.
“Somalis are not a people who can dominate each other. No one can force change on another. Communities must be allowed to manage their own regional affairs,” said the Puntland President.
Puntland officially declared its support for Jubbaland, warning against continued interference from the Federal Government and stressing that such interventions threaten federalism and regional autonomy.
The President emphasized the need for dialogue and political consensus to resolve disputes instead of armed conflict, adding that Puntland stands firmly against the militarization of political disagreements.
This statement comes amid growing tensions in Lower Juba, where the fighting in Raskamboni has led to casualties, displacement, and rising fears of a broader conflict.
