The Governor of Banadir Region, Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), held his first official meeting today with district commissioners in Banadir, during which he instructed them to accelerate the registration of citizens for the upcoming one-person, one-vote elections.

This marks Muungaab’s first strategic meeting with local leaders since being reappointed to the position. He emphasized that voter registration is a top national priority, as he has been personally tasked by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud with leading the implementation of the electoral plan in the capital.

Governor Muungaab stressed the importance of ensuring that citizens are registered and able to freely exercise their democratic rights, calling it a critical step in advancing Somalia’s democratic governance and strengthening local administrations that truly represent the will of the people.

He also urged the district commissioners to work closely with the regional and district-level electoral commissions, and to launch widespread public awareness campaigns to help citizens understand the value and process of the one-person, one-vote election system.
