President of the United States, Donald Trump, has issued a stern warning to tech billionaire Elon Musk, saying he will face “serious consequences” if he attempts to punish Republican lawmakers who support the government’s controversial budget bill.
Trump made the remarks during an interview with a U.S. media outlet, amid a growing rift between the two globally influential figures. The political tension has drawn widespread public attention this week.
The clash between the two escalated sharply on Thursday, after Elon Musk fiercely criticized the proposed budget bill that Trump described as “big and beautiful.” The bill is currently under debate in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Several members of Congress opposed to the bill have called on Musk — who was one of the Republican Party’s most prominent financial backers during the previous presidential election — to fund primary challengers against those supporting the bill.
Responding to the situation, President Trump said:
“He will face serious consequences if he does that,”
while also describing Musk as “a disrespectful person.” However, Trump did not elaborate on what those consequences might be.
Furthermore, the President made it clear that he has no interest in repairing his relationship with Elon Musk — the South African-born CEO of Tesla and SpaceX — stating that he has no plans to reach out to him again.
