Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has issued a stern warning against the dangers of partisan politics driven by personal interests, cautioning that such actions risk plunging the country into a dangerous state that threatens national unity and stability.

In a strongly worded statement delivered this evening, Farmaajo accused current President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of deliberately violating the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia, particularly Articles 87, 50, 92, and 65. These articles outline the President’s obligation to uphold the Constitution and national unity, the role of the National Consultative Council in major decisions, the framework of federalism, and the requirement that parliamentary leadership remain politically neutral.

Farmaajo reiterated his call for President Hassan Sheikh to honor his commitments from the National Consultative Conference and to lead the nation through inclusivity and unity, urging him to return to lawful governance and a collective political approach to navigate the current crisis.

He specifically urged the President to retract unilateral actions that have sparked political contention, including undermining the Constitution under which he was elected, pushing through laws and electoral committees without consensus, and dismantling the National Consultative Council—moves that have created deep political rifts.

The former president expressed concern over the misuse of public resources for partisan activities, including the illegal use of state security forces, national media, and civil servants to promote a private political agenda.

He also called on President Hassan Sheikh to engage with federal member states that have been excluded from the National Consultative Council’s meetings and to allow constitutionally-mandated elections at the state level, especially in federal member states whose terms have expired.

Farmaajo concluded his remarks by emphasizing the urgent need to return to a consensus-based, inclusive political framework to rescue the country from its current turmoil.
