Mogadishu – May 13, 2025

Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni delivered a scathing critique following the official launch of the Justice and Unity Party (JSP) in Mogadishu last night, where Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was elected as the party’s chairman and official presidential candidate.

In a statement widely interpreted as a pointed jab at President Hassan Sheikh’s political ambitions and the party’s foundation, Deni said:

“Looking at what happened in Mogadishu last night, if you thought the blind old woman had reached her limit, now she’s started eating people too.”

The metaphor-laden comment has sparked widespread attention across social media, seen as a sharp criticism of the political maneuvering behind the creation of JSP and its leadership.

Deni’s remarks reflect growing tensions among Somalia’s political elite, particularly as the country moves closer to the 2026 elections. The comments underscore the deep divisions between federal and regional leadership over the future direction of Somali politics.
