Mogadishu, May 13, 2025 – The first General Assembly of the Justice and Unity Party (JSP) has officially elected H.E. Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the current President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, as the Chairperson of the party and endorsed him as the official presidential candidate for the upcoming national elections.
The election, held in Mogadishu, marks a significant step in the evolution of Somalia’s multiparty political system, as the sitting president actively engages with a formally structured political party to contest the next presidential race.
In his acceptance speech, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stated that JSP would stand for justice, national unity, and inclusive governance. He emphasized the party’s commitment to rebuilding a peaceful and stable Somalia that upholds the aspirations of its people.
The historic conference also ratified the party’s official constitution, laying a strong foundation for institutional growth and democratic engagement within the country’s political landscape.
