The Somali Petroleum Agency today signed a new oil exploration agreement with its counterpart, the Turkish Energy Company, TPAO (Turkiye Petroleri Anonim Ortakligi), to continue drilling for oil.
Various reports from the two governments of Somalia and Turkey have said that this new agreement is related to carbon-carbon exploration that will be done jointly by the two countries, according to the Minister of Energy of Turkey.
According to the minister, this agreement will be implemented by research centers that will focus on gas and oil in Somalia.
“With this agreement, we will carry out oil and gas research operations on the territory of Somalia,” said Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
Earlier, Mogadishu and Ankara signed an oil exploration agreement targeting oil reserves in Somalia’s offshore economic zone, which has not been developed since the fall of Somalia’s dictatorial government in 1991. The agreement also includes a land survey.
The two governments also agreed that oil drilling will be officially started next year in 2025.
Somalia is currently preparing to benefit from the resources that God has given it, and it has signed an agreement with the Turkish government.
