According to the reports that the BBC is receiving from the Russian government, Trump’s victory may affect the war in Ukraine. The Russian news agency Interfax reported that the country’s deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, said that Moscow and Washington have “Exchanging information about Ukraine” using limited channels.
He said that preparations have not yet started for talks between President Vladimir Putin and the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, but that Russia is open to listening to Trump’s proposals on finding a solution to the Ukraine crisis.
However, Ryabkov also said that many of Trump’s proposals seemed to be just for the sake of the election campaign.
“I think some of his messages about the immediate resolution of the situation in Ukraine are nothing more than electioneering.”
