Security Council Meeting: The situation in Somalia Report of the Secretary-General on Somalia (S/2010/447)

The United Nations Security Council issued a resolution amending the arms embargo on Somalia that was recently lifted, which is about the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopting Resolution 2775 (2025) to strengthen the arms embargo on Somalia.

This new resolution renews the authorization of UN member states to search ships in Somali waters and the open sea, especially those suspected of carrying coal or illegal weapons, including improvised explosive devices.

Also, the resolution allows for the seizure and destruction of illegal items found in these investigations, while the seized coal can be sold, and monitored by the inspection team in Somalia and Eritrea.

These measures are aimed at curbing the activities of ISIS and A’S that threaten the peace and security of the region, including acts of terrorism.
