The Federal Government of Somalia in coordination with the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) conducted an airstrike targeting Al-Shabaab near the town of Ceel Dheer, approximately 288 km northeast of the capital, Mogadishu.
AFRICOM assured they are working with the Federal Government and Somali National Army, to eliminate Al-Shabaab’s capabilities to deter threats to U.S. personnel, personnel, and citizens abroad.
The number of Al-Shabaab fighters killed in the strike has not yet been disclosed. AFRICOM also withheld details regarding the specific units and assets involved, citing operational security.
