The US Embassy in Somalia issued a warning to US citizens on Tuesday, saying it had received “certain information regarding the possibility of imminent attacks” in the country.

Officials did not provide details on the expected attacks, but the US Embassy in Mogadishu said it was monitoring threats against several locations, including the capital’s Aden Adde International Airport.

“The U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu is tracking credible information related to potential imminent attacks against multiple locations in Somalia including Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport. All movements of U.S. Embassy Mogadishu personnel have been cancelled until further notice” reads the statement from the US State Department.

The embassy urged U.S. citizens to remain aware of terrorism threats, warning of potential “kidnappings, bombings and other attacks in Somalia”.

The US State Department has maintained a level four travel alert for Somalia since July 2024, warning against travel to the country due to threats of terrorism, crime, and instability. The embassy said the warning remains in place.
