President Erdoğan’s visit to Somalia and Ethiopia comes days after the two governments reached an agreement mediated by Turkey, which ended the conflict between the two sides.

“We will visit Ethiopia and Somalia in the first two months of next year and we will share with the world the steps we have taken,” said President Recep Erdoğan.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed have agreed that Ethiopia will get access to the Somali sea, which it will use as a port, after going through an agreement based on a bilateral trade process.

The two governments also agreed to maintain the independence and territorial integrity of the two countries, based on mutual respect and the protection of the nationalities of Somalia and Ethiopia.

This agreement stipulates that the two countries will start technical discussions, to find a safe sea passage for Ethiopia to reach the Somali Sea, which will start at the latest in February 2025, and will be facilitated by the Turkish government.
