The president of South Korea facing impeachment.

South Korean parliamentarians on Wednesday called for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol, after he announced martial law on Tuesday, which he later retracted.

The imposition of martial law has sparked the biggest political crisis in decades in Asia’s fourth-largest economy.

About 190 members who stormed the parliament building after being attacked by the police all unanimously rejected the martial law imposed by President Yoon. The MPs included 18 of President Yoon’s party.

South Korea has also been rocked by large protests against the president’s actions.
President Yoon Suk Yeol, in a speech broadcast on national television, said that he issued martial law to defend his country from the neighboring country of North Korea, which is a nuclear-armed country, from individuals who oppose Korean nationalism and to protect the constitution of his country. After that pressure, the president of South Korea withdrew his decision.

South Korean labor unions have already announced today that they will go on strike until President Yoon resigns.

Large demonstrations demanding this are expected to begin today on Wednesday.
