The presidential and vice-presidential elections for the Northeastern Somali region are taking place today, in Las Anod, the capital of Sool Region, with candidates who have obtained a certificate that allows them to run.
The five candidates vying for the position of President of the Northeast, are Abdikadir Ahmed Aw Ali (Firdhiye), Jamaal Mohamed Hassan, Abdirisaq Khalif Ahmed, Rashid Farah Mahmoud, and Mahmoud Yusuf Hassan.
The candidates for Vice President are also five named Omar Dahir Hassan, Abdirashid Yusuf Jibriil (Abwan), Abdirisaq Mohamed Jama, Abdisatar Sheikh Osman Omar and Mohamed Abdi Bullaale.
The city of Las Anod went under curfew last night, stopping the movement of people and vehicles, except for vehicles that were authorized to be used by officials and candidates.
