The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Dahir Shire Mohamed, the Deputy Minister H.E. Abdiwahab Abdi Omar, the Director General H.E. Mohamed Hashi Arabey, and the Director of the Somali Petroleum Authority H.E. Abdiqadir Mohamed Aden appeared today before the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources and Environment of the House of the People.

The session, chaired by the Committee Chair Hon. Yusuf Hussein Ahmed Gamaadiid and attended by the Deputy Chairwoman Hon. Bashir Haji, was part of a Q&A session focusing on key national resource issues.

The meeting concentrated on the recent statement from the Turkish Parliament regarding petroleum exploration and production in Somalia, as well as the ongoing cooperation between Somalia and Turkey in this sector.

The Ministry officials presented a comprehensive briefing to the committee covering the stages of petroleum exploration and production, the legal frameworks guiding these activities, and current strategies aimed at boosting the country’s economy while safeguarding national interests.

The session also emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and regular oversight to ensure the orderly implementation of resource development activities.

In conclusion, both parties agreed to hold follow-up sessions to strengthen consultation and monitoring of the laws and procedures governing petroleum exploration and production.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources reiterated its commitment to working transparently with legislative bodies and relevant government institutions to ensure the proper management and public benefit of Somalia’s natural resources.
