Mozambique’s opposition leader, who led weeks of protests against controversial elections in exile, said he would return home on Thursday.

Venancio Mondlane said in a message posted on social media that he will arrive before the inauguration of the new president. Daniel Chapo of the ruling Frelimo party is scheduled to be sworn in next week.

The protests that have been going on for the past few days have greatly affected the stability of Mozambique in the last few weeks.

If opposition leader Venacio Mondlane returns to the country as promised, further chaos could result from the move.
