Reports from the town of Beledweyne, the capital of Hiran region, indicate that the attack on the Qahira Hotel, located in the west of the city, has been ended, according to the Baldweyne media outlet.
After the explosion, armed gunmen entered the hotel, with heavy gunfire heard from inside the hotel.
Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack on the Qahira Hotel, where traditional elders from a local community were meeting and, according to witnesses, discussing how they could participate in the fight against Al Shabaab in the region and nearby regions.
About three peace activists were killed among the elders who were meeting there, and their names were Adan Raaxo-jecel, Adan Indhobuur, and Mohamed Osman (Ileyna), while a peace activist named Islow survived, but was injured.
