At least two soldiers died, others injured after the Al-Shabaab group targeted and bombed Kenyan troops along the route between Ijara and Bodhai, Garissa in northeastern Kenya.

The two dead were named Mohamed Shabel Bashir and Abdikadir Mohamud Salaat, and they were traveling in a Probox-type car on their way to Bodhai, when the explosion occurred.

Bodhai County Governor, Dubat Mohamed, confirmed the attack, saying the land mines appear to have been targeted to security convoy operating regularly on that route.

“It’s a sad event. I believe the attack was targeted to the security army that was sometimes on this path,” Dubat said.

“Our troops are investigating suspicious areas. We are asking the public to work with us and report any information they have,” he added.

Also Ijara MP Abdi Ali condemned the attack, describing it as disrupting efforts to stabilize the region.
